New tactile maps printed at the Ural Center for 3D Technologies. With the support of the Ministry of Investment and Development of the Sverdlovsk Region, they were developed by specialists from the association "Special People" for the project "Special Tour". Maps are used during excursions for visually impaired people. People with visual impairments can also go on a trip to Yekaterinburg, hearing, musculoskeletal system, as well as people with mental disabilities.

All objects on the maps are made 3D, and the street names are in braille. The map covers the territory of the city center, along which the route of the "Special Tour" runs.

– Tactile model for people with visual impairments – a way to get acquainted with large-scale architectural objects or art objects. Before the start of mass excursions, we tested our maps with the help of experts from the regional library for the blind. And the guys gave us a lot of valuable advice, - say the developers of the project "Special Tour".

- It would take a very long time to make a tactile map by any other means - from wood or metal, - says the director of the Center Yuri Pereverzev. But the main advantage is, that in the created digital image, if necessary, you can always make changes. If, for example, a new facility will appear in the city center, we can always add it to an existing 3D model and print a new map. It's very affordable, fast and flexible.

The maps have already been evaluated by visually impaired Yekaterinburg residents during an excursion to the Ural Center for 3D Technologies. What surprised them the most, that parts for new 3D printers are printed by 3D printers created here.

3D-printing is now used in many areas. for example, four-year-old Katya from Yekaterinburg in Moscowprinted on such a printer a cyberhand. And also in Yekaterinburg with the help of 3D modelingmade a gravestone monument to a hockey player in the form of skates. By the way, anyone can buy a 3D printer, eg, Oleg Ermolin with his sonprint toys and useful little things for the house on it.
