Chairman NROOI “Invatur”, member of the Public Council under the Main Directorate of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia for the Nizhny Novgorod Region Andrey Bulanov 06 september 2022 g. visited five correctional institutions to assess their accessibility for convicts, for people with limited mobility. Unfortunately, some of them are disabled, experiencing severe mobility difficulties. Besides, relatives of convicts should also be able to exercise the right to visit.
During the visit, the availability of residential premises was assessed, canteen, medical parts, long meeting rooms. As a result of the visits, an action plan will be developed to increase the level of accessibility of correctional institutions for people with limited mobility. Person with disabilities, serving a sentence, should be able to fully enjoy the rights, which are provided for by the current legislation.
Organization “Invatur” implements the project “Available Wednesday and other days of the week”, supported by the Presidential Grants Fund. Issues of ensuring unhindered access of people with disabilities to social infrastructure facilities should be addressed everywhere
