In the past 2016 year “Invatur” implemented the project “Affordable hospitality”, aimed at
increasing the tourist attractiveness of Nizhny Novgorod by improving its accessibility for people with limited mobility.
Our city has a long history, many unique monuments have survived. The flow of tourists is growing every year, and in connection with the upcoming FIFA World Cup, preparations for the 800th anniversary celebration, we should expect a manifold increase in visitors, including those, who have restrictions on movement.
Another guest of our city, came from the USA. He only had one day on his way from Moscow to St. Petersburg. NROOI specialists “Invatur” willingly responded to a request to help organize a transfer. Arrival of guests, using a wheelchair when moving – not news, but the guest arrived in an impressive size electric wheelchair. It won't fit in a passenger taxi, but it is problematic to get from the railway station to the hotel on Ilyinskaya street on your own: steep climbs and busy traffic. The use of a low-floor shuttle bus disappeared, since they do not walk on Ilyinskaya street.
Thanks to the Ministry of Social Policy of the Nizhny Novgorod Region, which allocated a minibus with a lift.
Train station escort service, despite the difficulties of repair, made every effort to meet the guest. Hopefully, that as a result of capital
repair of the Moscow railway station, existing problems in accessibility will be eliminated.
Hotel where the traveler is staying – “Marriott Cortyard” is part of the international hotel chain, built with accessibility standards in mind. All the more strange, that parking for disabled people is at the entrance, which is not intended for people with disabilities, and the staff did not explain, that there is a more convenient entrance. I had to go back and walk around the building from the other side.
Much is changing in the city ahead of the FIFA World Cup, public transport is being purchased, accessible for people with limited mobility.
Attention should be paid to the lack of public taxi cars, equipped with a lift.
The trip gave the guest a lot of impressions. Hopefully, that this is not his last visit to our city.
