WHEELCHAIR RACING: RUSSIAN PILOT BECAME A PRIZE WINNER AT THE CYBATHLON CHAMPIONSHIP IN TOKYO

global manufacturers and engineering teams, creating the latest technical solutions and rehabilitation means for people with disabilities. Russian company"Caterville" became a championship winner.

Wheelchair pilot competition includes a special obstacle course, simulating everyday difficulties, which wheelchair users often encounter.

"Race track" includes sections, which require skillful maneuvering in confined spaces: drive between furniture, turn around at the entrance and so on. The wheelchair must also be able to adapt to different surfaces, drive over rough terrain, slopes and climb stairs.

The main mission of the championshipCybathlon is the desire to encourage manufacturers and start-up teams to innovative solutions, that help people with disabilities become more independent and self-reliant in their daily activities.

This yearCYBATHLON Wheelchair took place in Kawasaki Prefecture, Tokyo, Japan. Participants include Asian and European developers, who made their prototypes of wheelchairs specifically for competitions. The presented wheelchairs are equipped with technological solutions, allowing you to overcome various obstacles, such as stairs, slides or doorways, without being too bulky, easy to sit at a regular table.

The Russian company Caterwheel became the winner of the championship, and took second place during the final race, putting my serial stroller on the track, which is currently being sold on the Russian and foreign markets. Pilot Yuri Larin needed a little luck to win.

The Novosibirsk all-terrain stroller Caterwil GTS3 EXPORT is a modernized version of the GTS3 all-terrain stroller, superior to its predecessor in speed and range. Production of the new model began in April 2019 of the year, but the product is already in demand. Exactly this, market-oriented stroller, brought silver to the Russians.

On the way to the final, the Russian team was ahead of 6 other all-terrain wheelchair development teams from Japan and Hong Kong, and in the finals I competed with the teamHSR Echanced from Switzerland. Outpacing your opponent in speed, and showing high cross-country ability, Caterwheel pilot crossed the finish line first.

Unfortunately, the intensity of passions made itself felt in the final race: the Russian team made a mistake at the first obstacle, and the chair touched the desk, drive behind which you must without touching. According to the competition regulations, passing this obstacle was not counted. Penalty points made the Swiss the winner, and the Russian got silver. The team from Japan took third place, lost to the Caterville sidecar in the semi-finals.

“Among all the winners, only the Caterwil GTS is a commercial product, while the rest of the teams presented prototypes, not intended for everyday use", - says the head of the company Ivan Nevzorov.

According to the developer, the advantage of the Russian stroller over its competitors is that, that it is made simply and reliably. Caterwheel uses original mechanics – combining crawler technology with wheel drive. This is the only stroller in the world with a double chassis.

Caterwheel is already a two-time CYBATHLON Wheelchair champion. On previous stroller models, Novosibirsk residents became winners of competitions in 2017 and 2018 years. Caterville plans to regain the championship title as early as May next year., on CYBATHLON 2020, which will take place in Zurich, Switzerland.
